The Colorado Shakespeare Festival, a professional theatre company in association with the University of Colorado Boulder, is accepting applications for production staff positions. See below for details.

2020 SEASON

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “All’s Well That Ends Well,” “The Odyssey,” “Coriolanus,” and “Pericles” (Original Practices performance)

STITCHER

Term of employment: May 19-July 21, 2020

Duties:

  • Responsible for the construction of new costumes and the alteration and refurbishment of existing costumes, under the direction of the draper and first hand.
  • Experience in construction, alteration, and finishing work using both hand and industrial machine stitching; pressing and rolling of fabrics; pressing, steaming and correct labeling of finished costumes.
  • Work closely with draper, first and second hand to ensure that costumes are completed with an emphasis on quality, safety.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must have or be in the process of obtaining a costume degree.
  • Strong skills in construction and alteration.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong collaboration, communication and technical skills and be able to maintain high quality/standards and safe and supportive work environment while working on tight timeline.

FIRST HAND

Term of employment: May 19-July 21, 2020

Duties:

  • Assisting the draper in the production of new costumes and refurbishment/ alteration of existing costumes.
  • Pattern layout and fabric cutting according to draper/tailor direction.
  • Preparing construction work for stitchers, interns and volunteers.
  • Supervision of stitchers, interns and volunteers in the construction, finish work, and alterations.
  • Monitor team safety, morale and maintain excellence of product.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must have or be in the process of obtaining a costume degree.
  • Professional experience is required.
  • Artistic sensibility and sensitivity, as well as strong collaborative skills.

DRAPER

Term of employment: May 19-July 21, 2020

Duties:

  • Working in tandem with costume shop manager and designers to produce vision of the designs.
  • Create patterns from designer renderings.
  • Attend fittings as necessary.
  • Leading alterations of pulled / bought pieces.
  • Overseeing a team of 5-6 people in the costume shop.
  • Collaborating with other departments as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Must have excellent personal time management skills and the ability to schedule others effectively.
  • Desired candidate needs a strong knowledge of costume history.
  • Professional experience is required.
  • Artistic sensibility and sensitivity, as well as strong collaborative skills.

COSTUME CRAFTS SUPERVISOR

Term of employment: May 19-July 21, 2020

Duties:

  • Interpret and implement costume crafts projects as designed by the Costume Designer, and approved by Costume Shop Manager.
  • Supervise the construction, fitting, and alteration of costume craft items, including but not limited to hats, jewelry, armor, masks, footwear, belts, bags, puppets, foam structures, and mechanical costumes.
  • Fabricate the patterns, development and fitting of craft pieces according to designer specification.
  • Cutting, construction, finish work, and alterations on assigned craft items.
  • Utilize fabric manipulation techniques, painting/dyeing, and costume distressing.
  • Overseeing a team of 2-3 employees, including Crafts Assistants, Interns, and Volunteers.
  • Monitor team safety, morale and maintain excellence of product.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must have or be in the process of obtaining a costume degree.
  • Professional experience is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of costume crafts materials, including but not limited to clay, leather, buckram, felt, thermoplastics, foams, adhesives, and metal work.
  • Knowledge of respirator use, basic safety procedures, and the ability to safely operate power tools.
  • Artistic sensibility and sensitivity, as well as strong collaborative skills.

COSTUME CRAFTS ARTISAN

Term of employment: May 19-July 21, 2020

Duties:

  • Assisting the crafts head in the construction, fitting, and alteration of costume craft items, including but not limited to armor, masks, footwear, belts, bags, and jewelry.
  • Development and fitting of craft pieces according to designer specification and crafts heads director.
  • Cutting, construction, finish work, and alterations on assigned craft items.
  • Assist in supervising interns and volunteers.
  • Monitor team safety, morale and maintain excellence of product.

  • Artistic sensibility and sensitivity, as well as strong collaborative skills.

WARDROBE SUPERVISOR

Term of employment: May 19-Aug. 16, 2020

Duties (During Production):

  • Assist Costume Designer and Costume Director in creating the designer’s vision by being informed about the script, context of design and other relevant aspects of assigned production.
  • Acts as the liaison between the designer and the costume team especially when the designer is off site.
  • Facilitates all materials needed to execute costumes including but not limited to; fabric and accessory materials, costume rentals, stock and purchased garments. This includes fabric purchases, garment and accessory purchasing and returning to meet both vendor and fitting deadlines and oversight of all items needed for the successful completion of their assigned show.
  • Prepares and time manages actor fittings to ensure all priorities are met. Documents notes and images and stores all information, so designers and the necessary department members have access to the information.
  • Prepares paperwork and strategizes to coordinate the transition of the show from the workroom to wardrobe and to facilitate the running and maintenance of each show. Paperwork may include actor dressing sheets, check in sheets, scene breakdowns, and quick-change information.
  • Works closely with Stage Management to assure smooth exchange of information, rehearsal and show needs.
  • Compiles, collects and distributes costume notes following actor fittings.
  • Attends meetings, run-throughs, dress rehearsals and other rehearsals with or as a representative of the designer and shop.

Duties (During Performances):

  • Coordinates the care, management, and organization of finished costumes for the summer season.
  • Supervises the preparation of dressing cards and costume check-in/tracking sheets for indoor and outdoor productions as described above.
  • Assists in costume strike including laundry, dry cleaning, rental returns.
  • Attends rehearsals and run-throughs as necessary.

  • Demonstrates managerial skills.

WIG AND MAKEUP SUPERVISOR

Term of employment: May 1-July 21, 2020

Duties:

  • Supervise and execute all wig and makeup elements of 4-show repertory season.
  • Consult with Costume Shop Manager and Costume Designers on feasibility of costume designs in relation to timeline, labor, and budget.
  • Pulls, purchases, alters, or manufactures all wigs, hair styles, and facial hair as designed.
  • Maintain wig / hair stock.
  • Perform regular hair styling and cuts for company members as needed for each production.
  • Demonstrate and apply traditional and contemporary makeup techniques.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently, supervising a small staff.

Requirements:

  • Professional experience is required.
  • Artistic sensibility and sensitivity, as well as strong collaborative skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong collaboration, communication and technical skills and be able to maintain high quality/standards and safe and supportive work environment while working on tight timeline.

WIG AND MAKEUP ARTISAN

Term of employment: May 19-Aug. 16, 2020

Duties:

  • Pulls, purchases, alters, or manufactures all wigs, hair styles, and facial hair as designed.
  • Maintain wig / hair stock.
  • Demonstrate and apply traditional and contemporary makeup techniques.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently, supervising a small staff.
  • Assists with changeovers, presets, and maintains wig and makeup elements thru the entire season.
