The Colorado Shakespeare Festival, a professional theatre company in association with the University of Colorado Boulder, is accepting applications for production staff positions. See below for details.

2020 SEASON

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “All’s Well That Ends Well,” “The Odyssey,” “Coriolanus,” and “Pericles” (Original Practices performance)

ASSOCIATE TECHNICAL DIRECTOR (2 positions available)

Term of employment: May 12-Aug. 16, 2020

Duties:

  • Each ATD will work in collaboration with the Technical Director on 2 shows including scene shop operations, planning, build, load-in, repertory changeovers and maintenance of scenery / props throughout the season.
  • Creation of all scenic shop drawings under the guidance of the Technical Director.
  • Consult with Technical Director on supervising build, installation, rigging, and strike of sets, safety training and oversight, maintenance of shop and its equipment.
  • Direct and instruct production crew and interns on theatrical skills and best practices.
  • Perform skilled carpentry work through the use of a variety of materials related to the construction of theatrical scenery as needed.
  • Lead changeovers and perform routine maintenance to shows running in rep.

Requirements:

  • Professional experience is required.
  • Strong AutoCAD and / or Vectorworks proficiency to produce clear working drawings for shop staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in stage carpentry, welding, rigging, set electrics and safety.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong collaboration, communication and technical skills and be able to maintain high quality/standards and safe and supportive work environment while working on tight timeline.
  • Teaching/mentoring experience preferred, but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a 26’ box truck.

STAFF CARPENTER (4 positions available)

Term of employment: May 12-July 18, 2020

Duties:

  • Responsible for performing skilled carpentry work through the use of a variety of materials related to the construction of theatrical scenery.
  • Assist with the planning, layout, construction, and installation of scenic projects while working closely with the technical directors to ensure that the scenic elements of the productions are completed with an emphasis on quality, safety.
  • Assist as needed across departmental lines as designated by Production Manager.

Requirements:

  • Professional experience is required.
  • Strong carpentry skills in both wood and steel construction.
  • Rigging experience is desired.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong collaboration, communication and technical skills and be able to maintain high quality/standards and safe and supportive work environment while working on tight timeline.
  • Teaching/mentoring experience preferred, but not required.

MASTER ELECTRICIAN (2 positions available)

Term of employment: May 14-Aug. 16, 2020

Duties:

  • Oversee electrics install, maintenance and repair of equipment as needed.
  • Work with the Production Manager to ensure deadlines are met within budget and time constraints.
  • Instruct electrics crew in show operation, board operation.
  • Run light board during all performances.
  • Assist as needed across departmental lines as designated by Production Manager.

Requirements:

  • Professional experience is required.
  • CAD/ Vectorworks proficiency.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong collaboration, communication and technical skills and be able to maintain high quality/standards and safe and supportive work environment while working on tight timeline.
  • Teaching/mentoring experience preferred, but not required.

AUDIO ENGINEER / TECHNICIAN (2 positions available)

Term of employment: May 14-Aug. 16, 2020

Duties:

  • Oversee sound install, maintenance & repair of equipment, including all radios and headset systems (Both wired and wireless).
  • Work with the Production Manager and Technical Director to ensure deadlines are met within budget and time constraints.
  • Oversee wireless mic usage and live mix on the outdoor stage.
  • Instruct sound crew in show operation.
  • Assist in the transfer of show to one tour venue.
  • Assist as needed across departmental lines as designated by Production Manager.

Requirements:

  • Professional experience is required.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong collaboration, communication and technical skills and be able to maintain high quality/standards and safe and supportive work environment while working on tight timeline.
  • Teaching/mentoring experience preferred, but not required.

PROPS SUPERVISOR

Term of employment: May 14-July 18, 2020

Duties:

  • Responsible for all props, stage furnishings, and perishables in the 4-show repertory season.
  • Supervise small staff in the acquisition and / or construction of all properties.
  • Instruct run crew in proper maintenance of props in performance and ensure quality of all props for the stage.
  • Manage props budget and spending in coordination with Production Manager.
  • Participation in preseason production meetings as needed.

Requirements:

  • Professional experience required.
  • Standard props construction skills (crafts, carpentry, sewing, upholstery).
  • Experience with faux painting props, working with wide variety of materials.
  • Experience with sculpting and casting.
  • Advanced carpentry is helpful.
  • Experience with arms, armor, and stage weaponry (construction, repair, proper maintenance), helpful but not required.
  • Teaching and mentoring experience preferred, but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license.

PROPS ARTISAN

Term of employment: May 14-July 18, 2020

Duties:

  • Assist Props Supervisor in building, modifying, procuring all props in the 4-show season.
  • Standard props construction skills (crafts, carpentry, sewing, upholstery).
  • Experience faux painting props, working with a wide variety of materials.
  • Experience with arms and armor, including construction, repair and proper maintenance.
  • Sculpting, casting, and advanced carpentry is helpful.
  • Assist as needed across departmental lines as designated by Production Manager.

Requirements:

  • Professional experience is required.
  • Artistic sensibility and sensitivity, as well as strong collaborative skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong collaboration, communication and technical skills and be able to maintain high quality/standards and safe and supportive work environment while working on tight timeline.
  • Teaching/mentoring experience.

SCENIC CHARGE ARTIST

Term of employment: May 19-July 18, 2020

Duties:

  • Supervise and execute scenic painting needs for 4-show repertory season.
  • Work with Production Manager and Scenic Designers in assessing feasibility of scenic designs and paint needs in relation to timeline, budget, and labor.
  • Ability to work quickly, independently, and supervise a small crew of varying levels of experience.

Requirements:

  • Professional experience is required.
  • Artistic sensibility and sensitivity, as well as strong collaborative skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong collaboration, communication and technical skills and be able to maintain high quality/standards and safe and supportive work environment while working on tight timeline.
  • Deep knowledge of traditional and contemporary scenic painting techniques.
  • Teaching and mentoring experience preferred, but not required.

STAFF SCENIC ARTIST

Term of employment: May 19-July 18, 2020

Duties:

  • Assist Charge Artist in painting of 4 shows.
  • Ability to work quickly, independently, and supervise a small work crew of varying levels of experience
  • Assist as needed across departmental lines as designated by Production Manager.
