Processing and remembering with music

Saxophonist Josh Sweeney, a CU Boulder sophomore majoring in music and mechanical engineering, shopped regularly at the Table Mesa King Soopers, the site of the March 22 mass shooting. Sweeney decided to use music to process his emotions in light of the tragedy, recording an arrangement—which he originally wrote in spring 2020—of Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings.” Sweeney recorded all seven saxophone parts himself using different instruments, and added the complete music to video and photography he and his family took at the memorial site.
