Cecilia J. Pang

Cecilia J. Pang, PhD in Dramatic Art-Directing, University of California at Berkeley; MA in Theatre Arts, San Francisco State University; BA in English, University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada.  CU faculty member since 2003.

According to Cecilia, “My research/creative work philosophy is rooted first and foremost in my passion for making art. I want to keep my art vital by exploring creative new form and content and by venturing into unconquered territories; to take the road less traveled. I follow this dictum, as a director/filmmaker, by striving to awaken the powers of thought, feeling, passion, inspiration and aspiration, through creations of daring new visions and thinking “outside the box.”

CU Theatre Directing credits include Jesus Christ Superstar, The Dance and the Railroad, Marisol, Go Lysistrata!, Here I Am Here I Stay, The Grapes of Wrath, Breaking the Code, Peeru Gunto and Alice in Wonderland or Not. 

Filmmaking Credits include: 100 Birds Harmonizing (2013): Awarded best in Education.  The Greenhouse Effect (2010), It Has Not been Easy (2007); What Price Passion (2006): Official selection at TOMI film festival; Little Tiger (2005): Official selections at: Vancouver Asian Film Festival, [Dis]Orient Asian Film Festival, The Indie Gathering (2nd Place Documentary Feature); Gold Mountain Ballad (2004): Official selection at Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival; and The Hands that Build Shakespeare (2003), screened at Denver PBS, Channels 6, 8, 12.

A Fulbright research scholar in Hong Kong (2010), Cecilia is currently working on a documentary film on Hong Kong Cantonese Opera as a Conduit to Connect Culture, Creativity and Curriculum.  She also serves as the Artistic Associate for the Qi Shu Fang Peking Opera Company in New York.
