Tessa Nelson

Tessa Nelson is an American theatre practitioner with a focus in Shakespeare in performance. She holds a BA from St. John's College (Annapolis, MD) and an MFA in Dramaturgy from the A.R.T./MXAT Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard University (Cambridge, MA). She has studied internationally at the Moscow Art Theatre in Russia, and the Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts in Poland.

Tessa is the founder and artistic director of Sphinx's Riddle Theatre Company. Sphinx's Riddle creates theatre for every age (not theatre for all ages.) This year, her original work, "Transitions," will use the process of devised theatre to explore place-integration and the feeling of home with geriatric persons transitioning from home-care to assisted living facilities.

As a teaching artist, Tessa has worked with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Kaiser Permanente, Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Denver School of the Arts, Stage Door Theatre, Mizel Arts and Cultural Center, Northglenn Youth Theatre, Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre, and Harvard University. Her teaching philosophy centers around learner-centered instruction with the aim of empowering informed and intelligent global citizens.
