Logan Dougherty

Logan Dougherty graduated with a BA degree in astrophysics in 2015. He spent several years after that degree analyzing in situ space plasma data from the Voyager spacecrafts in the jovian system. These data were collected 14 years before he was even born. Research of the space plasma lead to an academic research paper in the Journal of Geophysical Research. This analytical side of his life reached further than just physics, extending into an appreciation of the mathematical side of music. Dougherty loved the intricacies of all musical genres from classical pieces to modern technical progressive metal. While already familiar with percussion and piano, he quickly learned guitar to help fellow students create the metal band Endlight. The band offered ample opportunities for composition and performances on stage, but Dougherty left the band in 2017 to pursue music composition to its fullest.

Returning to the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 2018, Dougherty began his BM in Music Composition, studying under Daniel Kellogg and Carter Pann. Dougherty has a passion for the music of films and video games, having first been inspired by the music from iconic film composers such as John Williams and Howard Shore. He has worked on the soundtracks for video games and student short films that are still in development. His love for romanticism, impressionism, and metal extend into his writing, creating his own distinctive sound.
