CURRENTLY SEEKING: Colorado Shakespeare Festival Audience Services Positions

The Colorado Shakespeare Festival (CSF) seeks CU Boulder students to serve as front-of-house staff in providing audience service support to the festival during the 2021 summer season. This is a great opportunity in a positive, fast-paced environment for graduate and undergraduate students.

CSF is a professional theatre company in association with the University of Colorado Boulder. The CSF summer season runs May through August on the historic Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre. The Festival’s year-round education programs reach thousands of school children each year through camps, classes, and outreach performances. CSF shares CU Boulder’s commitment to build an inclusive, diverse and equitable community and strives to create an environment in which everyone feels a sense of belonging and ability to contribute.

Available positions

CSF is seeking students to fill the following positions:

  • House Manager
  • General Staff
  • Preshow Greeters

Pay range is $12.36 to $14.00 per hour based on position type. The ideal candidate for these positions will have a work-study award and be available up to 20 hours per week beginning in June 2021 through August 2021 with training and setup hours in May 2021. Students without work-study will also be considered, however. 
All candidates must be organized, adaptable and committed to an inclusive, diverse and equitable workplace. Job duties may vary as needs arise, but the following list represents consistent duties throughout the summer.

House Managers

  • Supervise and delegate to audience services staff.
  • Act as House Manager in the Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre as needed.
  • Participate in the setup of all audience services equipment in May to prepare for the season opening.
  • Participate in the striking of all audience services equipment in August after the conclusion of the Festival.
  • Communicate with Box Office and Stage Management staff throughout a performance.
  • Be fully informed of all CSF policies as they pertain to patrons and be able to direct patrons.
  • Act as primary contact for all other CU departments (CU Police, Facilities Management, Events Planning and Catering, CES, etc.) during a performance.
  • Complete detailed house reports at the conclusion of each performance.
  • Ensure the safety of CSF patrons and take point for any medical emergencies that may arise at a performance.
  • Be kind yet firm with any and all patrons of the Festival.
  • Enforce and maintain the CSF Liquor License footprint.
  • Be familiar with and ready to execute the evacuation plan for your venue.
  • Be familiar with and enforce all COVID-related policies for your venue.
  • Maintain a pleasant and safe environment for CSF patrons to enjoy each show.

General Staff

  • Participate in the setup of all audience services equipment in May to prepare for the season opening.
  • Participate in the striking of all audience services equipment in August after the conclusion of the Festival.
  • Be able to take and execute directions from House Managers and other CSF personnel.
  • Be kind yet firm with any and all patrons of the Festival.
  • Enforce and maintain the CSF Liquor License footprint.
  • Assist House Manager in all events that may occur at a performance.
  • Be familiar with all CSF policies as they pertain to patrons and be able to direct patrons accordingly.
  • Maintain a pleasant and safe environment for CSF patrons to enjoy each show.

Preshow Greeter Staff

  • Have a strong working knowledge of the geography of campus.
  • Identify and assist CSF patrons who may need direction regarding their CSF-related event.
  • Be kind yet firm with any and all patrons of the Festival.
  • Be familiar with all CSF policies as they pertain to patrons, and be able to direct patrons accordingly.
  • Be knowledgeable about CSF liquor policy and related restrictions to items on CSF premises, and be able to inform patrons accordingly.
  • Enjoy talking with people and making them feel welcomed.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a current CU student
  • Must apply for work-study (complete both the 20/21 FAFSA and the 21/22 FAFSA, and apply for summer aide through the BuffOne Portal)
  • Must be able to lift small loads (approximately 15 lbs) repeatedly for short periods of time
  • Must be willing to work late evenings and weekends as determined by the production calendar
  • Must have a commitment to equity and inclusion values

Preferred Additional Qualifications

  • Prefer a CU student who is also continuing enrollment into Summer 2021 or Fall 2021
  • Prefer a CU student who has already received a work-study award for the current academic year

All positions will receive formal de-escalation, mental health first aid, and racial sensitivity training.
