This second recital program of the Fauré Centennial Festival features the impressive musicianship of both undergraduate and graduate students. Works by Mél Bonis and Maurice Ravel are included alongside works by Gabriel Fauré, all contemporaries working in Paris. The works by Fauré include old favorites such as “Sicilienne,” Nocturne No. 4 and Barcarolle No. 4. Less often heard are the enchanting late work for harp, “Une châtelaine en sa tour,” and his first song cycle “Poème d’un jour” which distills a story of love and loss into a mere three songs lasting six minutes. The evening ends with Fauré’s Second Piano Quartet, Op. 45 (1886), one of his most passionate and even violent chamber works.
From orchestras, bands and choirs to jazz, world music and opera to world-class faculty and guest performances, the CU Boulder College of Music brings hundreds of stunning performances to Boulder audiences throughout the academic year.
