Early Music Ensemble

Join us for a celebration of French Baroque music, done in the country style of mid-18th century France. The French nobility was fascinated by country life, including music, as it was performed in villages. Michel Corrette (1707-1795), a composer who lived during the 18th century, was especially fond of country style French music. Our program will bring to life this colorful music. We will conclude with a movement by Michel Corrette’s musical mentor, Antonio Vivaldi.

Highlights from the program include:
Michel Corrette: Concerto comique in G Major “Les Plaisirs de Dames,” Op. 8 (1733)
Michel Corrette: “Carillon des Morts” based on the bell peals of the Cathedral of Rouen
Michel Corrette: Concerto in C Major for Harpsichord and Accompaniment, Op. 26
Antonio Vivaldi: Concerto in G Minor, RV 157

Composed of a baroque string orchestra and additional musicians, the Early Music Ensemble is devoted to the performance and study of music primarily from the 16th through 18th centuries, with attention to period style, performance practices and historical context.

From orchestras, bands and choirs to jazz, world music and opera to world-class faculty and guest performances, the CU Boulder College of Music brings hundreds of stunning performances to Boulder audiences throughout the academic year.
