2022 CSF Audience Services positions (CU Boulder student jobs)

The Colorado Shakespeare Festival (CSF) seeks CU Boulder students to serve as audience services staff in providing front-of-house, gift cart and concessions support to the Festival May-August 2022. This is a great opportunity in a positive, fast-paced environment for graduate and undergraduate students.

CSF is a professional theatre company in association with the University of Colorado Boulder. The CSF summer season runs May through August in the historic Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre and the indoor University Theatre. The Festival’s year-round education programs reach thousands of school children each year through camps, classes, and outreach performances.

Positions and Pay

CSF is seeking CU Boulder students to fill the following positions:

  • Concessions Managers
  • Concessions Staff
  • General Staff
  • Gift Cart Staff
  • House Managers
  • Preshow Greeters

Base pay is $15 per hour with pay increases available based on experience, degree level in school and position type (full pay range across all positions is $15-$19 per hour). The ideal candidate for these positions will have a work-study award and be available up to 20 hours per week beginning in June 2022 through August 2022 with training and setup hours in May 2022, however, students without work-study will also be considered.

All candidates must be organized, analytical and adaptable. Job duties may vary as needs arise, but the following list represents consistent duties throughout the summer:

Concessions Manager

  • Supervise and schedule concessions staff to properly and adequately serve CSF patrons efficiently during all business hours.
  • Act as manager on duty for all CSF performances.
  • Manage the setup of all concessions equipment in May to prepare for the season’s opening and the striking of all concessions equipment in August after the conclusion of the Festival.
  • Attend CSF Audience Services training in May.
  • Train all concessions staff on concessions-specific processes.
  • Communicate with Audience Services staff throughout a performance.
  • Communicate with CSO personnel regarding any safety concerns surrounding the service of alcohol.
  • Be fully informed of all CSF policies as they pertain to patrons and be able to direct patrons as needed.
  • Act as primary concessions contact for all other CSF departments during a performance.
  • Prepare accurate deposits at the conclusion of each performance.
  • Ensure safe and secure credit card transactions and cash handling in consultation with CSF’s Operations Manager and Managing Director.
  • Source and maintain inventory of all food, non-alcoholic beverage items, and service supplies (cups, napkins, etc.) throughout CSF’s summer season, in consultation with CSF Managing Director.
  • Source and maintain inventory of all alcoholic beverages to be served via the concessions in accordance with CSF’s beer and wine license, in consultation with CSF Managing Director.
  • Ensure that no alcohol is sold to minors.
  • Maintain secure storage for inventory of all concessions product, particularly alcoholic beverages.
  • Work with CSF leadership to manage all credit and cash transactions and ensure accuracy and security of all transactions.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of all CSF concessions facilities throughout the season.
  • Be kind yet firm with any and all patrons of the Festival.
  • Enforce and maintain the CSF liquor license footprint by adhering to all state laws and regulations and all applicable University policies.
  • Maintain a pleasant and safe environment for CSF patrons to enjoy each show.

Concessions Staff

  • Participate in the setup of all concessions equipment in May to prepare for the season’s opening.
  • Participate in the striking of all concessions equipment in August after the conclusion of the Festival.
  • Serve beverages and packaged snacks to CSF patrons before each show and during intermission.
  • Assist Concessions Manager with regular inventory review and restock concessions inventory regularly.
  • Follow all policies and instructions from CSF leadership to ensure safe and secure credit card transactions and cash handling.
  • Work efficiently and courteously.
  • Be able to take and execute directions from Concessions Manager and other CSF leadership personnel.
  • Be kind yet firm with any and all patrons of the Festival.
  • Enforce and maintain the CSF Liquor License footprint.
  • Be familiar with all CSF policies as they pertain to patrons and be able to direct patrons accordingly.
  • Maintain a pleasant and safe environment for CSF patrons to enjoy each show.

General Staff

  • Participate in the setup of all audience services equipment in May to prepare for the season’s opening.
  • Participate in the striking of all audience services equipment in August after the conclusion of the Festival.
  • Be able to take and execute directions from House Managers and other CSF personnel.
  • Be kind yet firm with any and all patrons of the Festival.
  • Enforce and maintain the CSF Liquor License footprint.
  • Assist House Manager in all events that may occur at a performance.
  • Be familiar with all CSF policies as they pertain to patrons and be able to direct patrons accordingly.
  • Maintain a pleasant and safe environment for CSF patrons to enjoy each show.

Gift Cart Staff

  • Provide merchandise sales assistance to all interested patrons.
  • Maintain the CSF gift carts so that they are fully functional for Pre- Show and Intermission sales times.
  • Conduct an inventory pre-season and post-season to ensure accurate records.
  • Track inventory in the CSF system.
  • Maintain secure cash management procedures as instructed by the CSF Managing Director, including balancing and closing each shift.
  • Participate in the setup of all audience services equipment in May to prepare for the season’s opening.
  • Participate in the striking of all audience services equipment in August after the conclusion of the Festival.
  • Be kind yet firm with any and all patrons of the Festival.
  • Enforce and maintain the CSF Liquor License footprint.
  • Be able to take and execute directions from House Managers and other CSF personnel.
  • Maintain a pleasant and safe environment for CSF patrons to enjoy each show.

House Managers

  • Supervise and delegate to audience services staff.
  • Act as House Manager in both venues as needed.
  • Participate in the setup of all audience services equipment in May to prepare for the season’s opening.
  • Participate in the striking of all audience services equipment in August after the conclusion of the Festival.
  • Communicate with box office and stage management staff throughout a performance.
  • Be fully informed of all CSF policies as they pertain to patrons and be able to direct patrons.
  • Act as primary contact for all other CU departments (CU Police, Facilities Management, Events Planning and Catering, CES, etc.) during a performance.
  • Complete detailed house reports at the conclusion of each performance.
  • Ensure the safety of CSF patrons and take point for any medical emergencies that may arise at a performance.
  • Be kind yet firm with any and all patrons of the Festival.
  • Enforce and maintain the CSF Liquor License footprint.
  • Maintain a pleasant and safe environment for CSF patrons to enjoy each show.

Preshow Greeter Staff

  • Have a strong working knowledge of the geography of campus.
  • Identify and assist CSF patrons who may need direction regarding their CSF-related event.
  • Be kind yet firm with any and all patrons of the Festival.
  • Be familiar with all CSF policies as they pertain to patrons, and be able to direct patrons accordingly.
  • Be knowledgeable about CSF liquor policy and related restrictions to items on CSF premises and be able to inform patrons accordingly.
  • Enjoy talking with people and making them feel welcomed.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift small loads (approximately 25 lbs.) repeatedly for short periods of time.
  • Must be willing to work late evenings and weekends as determined by the production calendar.
  • CU students who apply must apply for work-study (complete both the 21/22 FAFSA and the 22/23 FAFSA, and apply for summer aide through the BuffOne Portal).
  • Prior food service, hospitality, or customer service experience is a plus but not required.
  • Prior experience with cash handling is a plus but not required.

All positions include Training for Intervention Procedures (TiPS) certification and de-escalation training. House Managers will receive CPR training. All concession and gift cart staff will receive point of sale and cash management training.
