Sergei Govorov
Sergei Govorov (Yamaha artist) is one of the most outstanding representatives of the Russian academic school of music, with 28 years of dedicated performance and teaching experience in various artistic environments. Author of educational and methodological works, US Green Card holder for people with extraordinary abilities. A member of the Eurasian Association of Saxophonists.
Sergei was educated in the best musical traditions of the Russian school of music. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the Sverdlovsk Regional Tchaikovsky College of Music and a Master’s Degree from the Urals State Mussorgsky Conservatory. In 2006, Sergei received a Doctorate in Music from one of the most famous Russian music schools, the Russian Academy of Music named by Gnesin. He earned his degree studying in the class of an outstanding professor Margarita Shaposhnikova. Ms. Shaposhnikova founded the Russian School of Saxophone playing and is generally regarded as one of the most well-known saxophone teachers in the world.
After completing his doctoral degree with the highest honors, he traveled to France to be coached by the country’s highly regarded saxophonists Claude Delangle, Jean-Deni Mishat, and V. David. In 2022, Sergei moved to the United States and got a green card for people with extraordinary abilities for outstanding achievements in the field of musical arts. During this year, Sergei played concerts in Seattle, New York, and Florida, and is active in concert and teaching activities in Colorado.
Sergei Govorov has extensive teaching experience for more than 27 years. Throughout his teaching career, Sergei has taught more than 200 students of all ages and levels, from elementary education programs for children to music university students. Sergei taught at music schools in Yekaterinburg and Moscow in Russia and at the Moscow City Pedagogical University. He also founded and taught at his own saxophone school. He has conducted more than 60 master classes for the Yamaha company, teaching more than 1,500 students all over Russia. He also recorded several video lessons with the support of the Yamaha Company.
Sergei Govorov is the author of 4 books entitled “Lets Sax Again” which contain his arrangements for kids. More than 1000 young saxophonists throughout Russia play his pieces.
He was a member of the jury of such competitions as Competition-Festival “Live Sound”, Competition “Yamaha Fest”, and Competition “Saxotone”
As a performer, Sergei Govorov thrives both as a soloist and ensemble/collaborative player. His repertoire stylistically ranges from classical saxophone to avant-garde, jazz, and pop.
His performances consistently receive the highest acclaim. He has toured extensively, including giving concerts and teaching students in the USA, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Switzerland, Egypt, and China, as well as in a great number of cities across Russia. In 2010, as a member of the folk ensemble Russian Banjo, he performed at one of the world’s most prestigious jazz festivals in Montreux, Switzerland. In 2015 he was invited to perform at the chamber music festival in Filey, United Kingdom.
Sergei Govorov created many successful musical projects such as the Ural saxophonist quartet, the Simple Music Ensemble, the VIA SOYUZ, the Cote d'Azur Band, and the Stilyagi Band. Perhaps the most significant of his projects is the Organ + Saxophone Duet. In that project, together with Organist Olesya Kravchenko, Sergei played more than 600 concerts in the best venues in Russia and recorded the disc FAITH, whose release took place in 2023 and included original works by contemporary composers. All those works were recorded for the first time in the history of music.
