Rudy Betancourt
Rudy Betancourt has held the Director of Macky Auditorium position since July 2010. In this capacity, Betancourt oversees all operations of the historic venue and works, along with its staff of more than 100 students and stage professionals, with strategic partnerships on and off campus in order to ensure its long-term success as a business unit of the University of Colorado Boulder. Under Betancourt’s leadership, Macky Auditorium opens its door to more than 80,000 people a year, hosting a wide variety of performances and events such as the College of Music’s large ensembles concerts, Eklund Opera performances, the Holiday Festival, CU Presents' Artist Series, the Boulder Philharmonic's concert season, the Conference on World Affairs, TEDx Boulder, MalherFest, CU student and academic organization events and concerts produced by LiveNation, AEG, Emporium Presents and other regional and national promoters.
An award-winning classical guitarist, Betancourt emigrated from Venezuela in 1995. He holds a bachelor’s degree in classical guitar performance from the Manhattan School of Music, a master’s degree in music performance from the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music and a Business Management Certificate from the University of Denver’s Daniels School of Business. Prior to his work at Macky Auditorium, Betancourt held positions in the education, artistic and marketing departments at the Colorado Symphony (as well as performed and recorded with the orchestra) and oversaw the marketing and communications efforts at Swallow Hill Music Association in Denver while keeping a busy performance schedule.
