Brian Casey
Brian Casey is currently an assistant professor in Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado where he specializes in jazz history and pedagogy at the graduate and undergraduate level. He holds a DMA in jazz studies from CU Boulder and an MM in jazz studies from the University of North Texas and has performed as a jazz bassist on the West Coast and in the Plains States for over 30 years. Brian has performed and/or recorded with Eric Skye, Henry Butler, Annette Lowman, Pink Martini, MaryLynn Gilaspie and many others. Dr. Casey has presented original research in jazz-related fields at many national and international conferences including those of the College Music Society, the Jazz Education Network and the International Society of Bassists. Brian’s research interests include the intersection of jazz and American literature, politics and society and the role of jazz in the civil rights struggle in America as well as jazz as a cultural phenomenon in New Orleans.
