HELEN HASS (Hansel), mezzo-soprano, studies under Abigail Nims. In December 2019, she had her NYC solo debut singing two world premiere vocal works with the Four Corners Ensemble in the Chopin and Friends Festival. As a young artist at Opera North, she sang Edith ("Pirates of Penzance") and Beatrice (scenes from "Béatrice et Bénédict"). Hass is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan’s MM program in voice performance; highlights include Gertrude ("Roméo et Juliette") and Lucy Talbot ("Dinner at Eight"). With the Four Corners Ensemble, she performed scenes from Shuying Li’s "Bloodlines" and premiered "He Had a Black Dog" with the Back Pocket Duo in 2018. In the metro Detroit area, Hass sang the role of Mercédès ("Carmen") with Opera MODO and debuted at the Michigan Opera Theatre as a Grisette in their 2015 production of "The Merry Widow." She has been a professional jazz vocalist since 2016.
