Symphonic Band
The Automatic Earth
Earth Day is upon us and we welcome you to join the CU Boulder Symphonic Band in celebration! Our culminating concert for the year celebrates spring and the rebirth of nature, and brings awareness to our global impact. We open our concert with "Fervor" written by Spencer Stepanek, our 2022 CU Boulder Student Composition Winner. "Fervor" is "a description of the innate drive to achieve and accomplish the things which we naturally envision, however, may practically be challenged to enact." This is followed by Nancy Galbraith’s "Febris Ver" (Spring Fever), which captures a minimalistic approach to music by growing small musical cells into full melodies and an exciting composition.
Our final piece, "The Automatic Earth," “weaves together two threads: the climate crisis, and the technological transformation of what it is to be human.” Steven Bryant’s 30-minute masterpiece for wind band begs us to pay attention to the world around us and take action to prevent a total global climate meltdown.
From orchestras, bands and choirs to jazz, world music and opera to world-class faculty and guest performances, the CU Boulder College of Music brings hundreds of stunning performances to Boulder audiences throughout the academic year.
