Alberto Caruso
Born in Trento and based in Rome, Alberto Caruso is an accomplished composer, pianist, and conductor. He graduated summa cum laude from the Conservatory of St. Cecilia and the National Academy of St. Cecilia, later studying conducting under Carlo Maria Giulini. A scholarship from the Japanese government allowed him to study traditional and contemporary music at Tokyo's Kunitachi College of Music; he remains fluent in Japanese.
Caruso’s career spans film and opera, including three years as an assistant to Henning Lohner at Hans Zimmer’s studios in Los Angeles. “The Late Signor Zanetti” (libretto by Mark Campbell) will be Alberto Caruso’s fourth opera after “The Little Prince” (Tokyo 2008 in Japanese, Turin 2015 in Italian - libretto by the composer from Saint-Exupéry); “The Master” (CU NOW 2014, Wexford 2022) and “Lady Gregory in America” (Wexford 2024), both librettos by Colm Tóibín. In October 2026 will be premiered in Ireland his fifth opera “The First Festival” (libretto by Colm Tóibín), commissioned to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Wexford Festival Opera.
