Emily Zalevsky

Emily Zalevsky

From the Bay Area in California, Emily Zalevsky has had an ear for music since starting piano lessons at the age of four. At eight, she picked up the guitar and soon after, the bass. She began formally composing at twelve, when she first entered the annual National Youth Composers’ Competition. Over the next five years entering the competition, she received two Honorable Mentions and was awarded Finalist in 2018. Throughout highschool, Emily took on commissions, arranged songs for her chamber choir, and played in her rock band– “Smashed Rat (Totally Flat!)”. In 2019, she composed and performed the accompaniment for a student-written, one-act play titled, Shriek! The Musical. Recently, she has had a work performed by the Los Angeles based piano duo, Hocket. Now in her first year studying at the University of Colorado Boulder, Emily is pursuing a dual degree in Music Composition and Astronomy.
