Violinist Harumi Rhodes and pianist Hsiao-Ling Lin’s recital opens with Robert Schumann’s Second Sonata for Violin and Piano. The centerpiece of this program, “MEMORIA,” features visual art by Michiko Theurer and 3 short works by Kaija Saariaho: Tocar; Aure, with cellist Meta Weiss; and Nocturne.
In Michiko’s words: “When Harumi described this set of pieces to me, I was drawn to the way each one touched the next. These silk paintings are a gesture to in-between spaces—doors, windows, silences—and a tribute to the ways Saariaho paid attention to the fabric of sound: its materials, its colors, its qualities of movement.”
The program ends with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Tenth Sonata for Violin and Piano.
From orchestras, bands and choirs to jazz, world music and opera to world-class faculty and guest performances, the CU Boulder College of Music brings hundreds of stunning performances to Boulder audiences throughout the academic year.
