Music and HIV/AIDS: A Look at Then and Now
Join the American Music Research Center for this interdisciplinary discussion on the intersection of public health and music. At 5:30 p.m., Houston-based musicologist Matthew J. Jones presents "Love Don't Need a Reason: The Life and Music of Michael Callen," connecting the singer-songwriter and activist's music with the larger AIDS movement, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Then at 6:15 p.m., CU Director of Vocal Pedagogy John Seesholtz presents "The Lost Songs of the AIDS Quilt Songbook," a musical response to the shame surrounding the outbreak of the HIV virus.
