Vocal Jazz Ensemble

Tradition Reimagined, Timeless Sounds, New Voices

Jazz club interior with a grand piano, drum kit, stage, and tables set for guests.

Join the College of Music's Thompson Vocal Jazz Ensemble for its fall 2026 performance featuring a vibrant program spanning bebop, jazz ballads, Música Popular Brasileira and Brazilian funk. This 13-member, audition-only ensemble, directed by Jazz Studies Lecturer Jocelyn Medina, brings together vocalists from across the university with piano accompaniment and co-direction by jazz alumnus and graduate student Milo Lewon alongside a rhythm section of CU Boulder jazz instrumentalists.

Each selection has been arranged by a local or personally connected jazz artist with the concert featuring the debut of new arrangements created specifically for the ensemble. Blending deep roots in the jazz tradition with fresh, contemporary interpretations, the program reimagines music by legendary jazz figures Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Hoagy Carmichael and Erroll Garner through a modern vocal jazz lens. Audiences can look forward to an exhilarating evening of swinging bebop, adventurous vocal improvisation, lush harmonies and infectious grooves—all celebrating the enduring legacy of jazz through the creativity and artistry of a dynamic ensemble of emerging jazz artists.

This performance features: Kyleigh Beirne, Alex Berros, Finn Cohen, Ayanna Cudennec, Francesca D’Ambrosio, Jamie Derugo, Matthew Fletcher, Gabe Hazleton, Bella Lanier, Thea Lessar, Miles Maslow, Colby Roseberry, Patrick Shiffler (vocals), Milo Lewon (piano & vocals), Jocelyn Medina (vocals & direction)
