This evening features two sets of music by faculty singer-songwriters Mike Barnett and Annika Socolofsky.
For those who prefer folk music with a little less polish and a lot more grit, singer/songwriter Mike Barnett delivers. With a spirit drawn from the defiant roots of country and the soul-searching honesty of folk, Barnett’s “outlaw folk” explores desolate landscapes, rugged characters and the pursuit of freedom in an oppressive world. This is a set of stripped-down rebellion and raw emotion with songs that unapologetically tell it like it is.
EmmyJean Jenkins (Annika Socolofsky's queer country alter ego) and her ragtag country band present the Colorado premiere of “DETECTIVE CONVENTION,” a true story of murder, intrigue, romance and comedy. The piece is a little bit classical and a lot bit country-pop, and features folk musicians from across Colorado’s Front Range. Expect a gentle needling of the patriarchy.
This performance will feature the following musicians: Mike Barnett, vocals and guitar; Enion Pelta-Tiller, vocals and fiddle; Fritz Gearhart, fiddle; Carl Dixon, percussion; EmmyJean Jenkins (Annika Socolofsky), vocals; Trace Hybertson, fiddle; isele phoenix harper, keys; Ilan Blanck, guitar; nicole patrick, drums.
