Faculty Tuesdays
All Basses Covered
“All Basses Covered” brings together the full range of what we love about the bass. The program opens with Krzysztof Penderecki’s "Duo"—written for Anne-Sophie Mutter—with Associate Professor of Double Bass Susan Cahill joined by Assistant Professor of Violin Alex Gonzales. The program continues with a modern, lyrical sonata for bass and piano by Vimos Montag featuring Professor of Collaborative Piano Margaret McDonald. The evening concludes with music by Cahill and Cahill—as Sue Cahill is joined by her sister, singer-songwriter Beth Cahill—for a set of original songs and carefully chosen covers shaped by their Chicago folk roots. They are joined by Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies Annie Booth and Jazz Studies Lecturer Enion Pelta-Tiller for a collaborative finale that highlights the bass’ versatility across traditions.
